Events & Workshops
If you would like to get to know us and our offerings without obligation, then our events and workshops are the right place for you to start. In just a few hours, you will gain essential basic knowledge, insights into useful methods, and meet like-minded people and contacts at KIT. Take advantage of the next opportunity—we look forward to seeing you!
Events & Talks
The maKeIT team regularly organizes its own events, but also gives presentations at events hosted by KIT and partner organizations. The focus here is on providing information about maKeIT, its objectives, and what it has to offer, as well as sparking interest in the topic and connecting people who want to make things happen.
Open & Individual Workshops
The maKeIT team offers open day workshops at regular intervals. At these workshops, you can learn more about maKeIT's methods and apply them directly to your own research results. In addition to the open workshops, which are organized in cooperation with the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS), among others, we also offer customized workshops for teams. Just get in touch with us—we look forward to hearing from you.
02.07.2025: maKeIT HAPPEN – From Clouds to Crowds: Climate Science in Action
Time: 02.07.2025, 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Location: TRIANGEL, Kaiserstraße 93, 76133 Karlsruhe
Climate change is serious business — but that doesn’t mean talking about it has to be complex and difficult to understand.
At the next maKeIT HAPPEN event on Kronenplatz, two KIT researchers show how climate science can come alive: on stage, in the lab, and out in the world.
Hannah Meyer takes her audience to the desert – literally. As a climate researcher, she investigates, among other things, how dust from the Sahara affects our environment. But her work doesn’t stop in the lab and field: through science slams, she brings complex climate topics to the stage and makes them accessible, fun, and relatable. At maKeIT HAPPEN, she’ll share how she found her way into science slams – and and how she is contributing to the battle against climate change.
Dr. Ottmar Möhler keeps his head in the clouds – for good reason. As an atmospheric scientist, he leads research at KIT’s AIDA cloud chamber, where he simulates real-world conditions to study how tiny particles influence cloud formation and the climate. But his impact goes far beyond simulations: Ottmar works closely with industry partners to develop new instruments and regularly opens his lab to the public.
At maKeIT HAPPEN, he’ll share how collaboration and curiosity drive his research – and how cloud physics can help us better understand climate change.
Together, they’ll share how they each create impact in their own way. Expect chuckles, “aha” moments, and insights that will stick with you long after the event ends.
Join us for an evening full of:
• Honest and humorous takes on doing climate research today.
• Real stories from two different paths of science transfer.
• Thoughtful conversations with curious minds over snacks and drinks.
The event will be held in English.
Whether you’re a climate nerd, just wondering what Saharan dust has to do with Karlsruhe or wondering how clouds are created in the lab – come by and get inspired!

28.05.2025: maKeIT HAPPEN | Physical activity in healthcare - let's go digital
Date and time: 28.05.2025, 17:30 p.m. - 19 p.m.
Location: Gebäude 40.40, Engler-Bunte-Ring 15+13, 76131 Karlsruhe
Speaker: Dr. Bettina Barisch-Fritz
Language: English
Registration: not needed
We warmly invite you to our next maKeIT HAPPEN event, taking place on May 28th at the Institute for Sports and Sports Science. The event is free of charge, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
Join us in welcoming Dr. Bettina Barisch-Fritz, who will share her insights into physical activity related healthcare and planning digital interventions for nursing homes, with a focus on people with dementia. Dementia is one of the major public health challenges of our time, affecting more than 55 million people worldwide (expected to reach 139 million by 2050) and is still incurable. Research into prevention and treatment strategies is therefore not only a medical necessity, but also an important societal task.
How digital applications can make a significant contribution, especially in dementia care, will be discussed, as well as the challenges of implementing evidence-based and theory-driven digital applications in nursing homes. She will share her insights and her own perspective on how small things are sometimes overlooked along the way and how everyday things can have a big impact.
Bettina is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sports and Sports Science and is currently completing her habilitation. She is involved in and manages several projects related to aging and physical activity, in addition to her role as family manager for three kids.
We look forward to learning from Bettina and engaging in a thought-provoking discussion. Feel free to bring your friends and colleagues along for what promises to be an insightful evening!
